Description

A former partner of ALI FARKA TOURÉ and AFEL BOCOUM, this Sahelian folk-blues genius hails from Goundam near Timbuktu, in the heart of the Niger River Delta. During the recording sessions for a second album with the BAN KAI NA band, MAMADOU KELLY and his Malian musicians witnessed a serious political crisis and atrocious abuses in their country. This chaotic context significantly influenced the songwriting, but also necessarily brought an added sense of urgency and authenticity to the performance of the songs. This is the very essence of the blues, directly connected to the affliction of peoples and individuals.
