Recordings from the era of SADDAM HUSSEIN (1980 to 2002), compiled by MARK GERGIS and released in 2005 on a long-out-of-print CD. The Syrian dabke equivalent, "choubi", also called Kawlia at weddings, is performed by an ensemble of violins, double-reed instruments, percussion, and keyboards. Other styles represented include basta, bezikh, and hecha, as well as three excerpts from a 1970 album by singer JA'AFAR HASSAN. Following the regime change and the American occupation in 2003, Choubi Choubi!, in addition to offering the listener an eclectic and captivating survey, will remain a testament to a bygone era and musical genres. Limited edition of two LPs and one picture sleeve 45 rpm record.
