During the first half of the 70s, the Lebanese Diva became an international star, performing sold-out concerts around the world. Artistically, she had forged a fruitful collaboration with her husband Assi Rahbani, who, with his brother Elias (aka the Rahbani Brothers), had written most of the singer's great classics. In 1978, Assi, who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 1972, was weakened and needed to step back, and their collaboration ended (as did their personal relationship). Their son Ziad, a 22-year-old young musician and producer, then took over the artistic reins of his mother's career and began working on a first collaborative album, Wahdon (\"alone\"), which he produced, composed, and directed. Wahdon crystallizes this key moment in Fairuz's career, seeing her transition from traditional oriental music arrangements to more modern sounds. The first side of Wahdon showcases the more traditional aspect of the singer with hypnotic songs such as \"Habaitak Ta Neseet Al Naoum\" (\"I loved you so much I lost sleep\") or \"Ana Indi Haneen\" (\"I Am Nostalgic\"), served by superb traditional arrangements with strings and oriental percussion. The second side of the album is a different story altogether. Recorded in Athens at the EMI studio at the same time as Abu Ali, the two long tracks that compose it are in funk and disco mode, making this album a highly sought-after vinyl by DJs and diggers worldwide. In particular, \"Al Bostah\" (\"The Bus\") tells the story of a woman in love remembering a bus trip with her lover in suffocating heat, and is carried by a hypnotic Arabic funk rhythm, while \"Wahdon,\" slower and jazzy, highlights Fairuz's superb voice.
