After reissuing Fairuz's 1979 album Wahdon, Wewantsounds continues its reissue work of the great Lebanese singer with the vinyl release of the highly sought-after Maarifti Feek, originally released in 1987. Recorded in Beirut in 1983-84, the album combines the Diva's superb voice with the jazzy and funky orchestrations of Ziad Rahbani, making Maarifti Feek one of the most in-demand albums on the Arab funk scene. Fairuz began her career in Lebanon in the 1950s and quickly established herself as the most renowned Diva in the Arab world. After Wahdon, Fairuz continued her collaboration with her son, Ziad Rahbani, a young prodigy, musician, playwright, and producer. Maarifti Feek ("Our Encounter") was recorded between 1983 and 1984 in Beirut, but only released in 1987. The album is a similar blend of influences ranging from traditional arrangements on "Oudak Rannan" and "Ma Kdirt Nseet" to Brazilian influences on "Version I" via the synthetic funk of "Ouverture 83" and "Reprise 83." The album also contains a magnificent version of Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" in the form of a tribute to the Lebanese capital, "Li Beirut." This blend of oriental grooves with Ziad Rahbani's tailor-made jazz and funk orchestrations is a unique document of Fairuz's career development in the 1980s and explains why Maarifti Feek is such a sought-after album in DJ and collector circles. Wewantsounds is delighted to reissue this album for the first time since its initial release.
