Nelly Kim Furtado started her musical journey in childhood, mastering trombone, guitar, and ukulele. Growing up in a multicultural family with Portuguese roots, she developed a wide stylistic palette including pop, folk, R&B, hip hop, and alternative rock. She began writing songs as a teenager and formed the Nelstar group before launching a solo career in 1999, signed by DreamWorks Records.
