Artillery
About
Artillery, Danish thrash metal pioneers from Taastrup since 1982.
Over 10 LPs spanning from 1985's Fear Of Tomorrow to 2021's X; original pressings and limited editions tracked in real time.
Emerging in the early 1980s, Artillery began as a quintet centered around guitarists Jørgen Sandau and Michael Stützer, bassist Morten Stützer, drummer Carsten Nielsen, and vocalist Carsten Lohmann. Early demos like Shellshock and Deeds Of Darkness (1984) preceded their debut album Fear Of Tomorrow (1985) under Neat Records. Known for their technical thrash approach, the band cultivated a connection with Metallica during Copenhagen sessions.
Lineup shifts occurred with Flemming Rønsdorf replacing the singer in 1985 and Morten Stützer moving to guitar in 1989, Peter Thorslund taking over bass. The 1990 album By Inheritance was released on Roadrunner Records, gaining critical attention despite limited label promotion.
