Irfan Label: a musical revolution for independence!

Who are they?

In 2001, the Burguière siblings, already well-known for their band Les Ogres de Barback, took a daring initiative: creating Irfan, an independent label.
The objective was clear: to maintain full control over their artistic productions and free themselves from the constraints of traditional record labels. This dream became a reality, allowing the label to cultivate a space where music can flourish without compromise.

Irfan is not just a commercial project; it's a true collective adventure. The label has successfully brought together several notable artists under its wing, such as La Rue Kétanou, a dynamic collective known for its energetic performances, and Loïc Lantoine, a singer-songwriter praised for his moving lyrics and distinctive voice. Frédéric Fromet, with his biting humor, and Didier Wampas, who made a name for himself with his album "Mon p'tit loup" which deals with social issues, are also part of this musical galaxy. These artistic choices illustrate the importance the label places on diversity and authenticity in music, making it a pillar of the independent music scene.

Irfan's musical universe

The musical identity of Irfan is defined by its broad stylistic openness. The label embraces a varied spectrum of genres, ranging from rock to folk, while incorporating jazz and French chanson influences.

The label is not limited to its initial catalog. It constantly strives to include new artists, thereby bringing freshness and innovation to its guidelines.
The label's catalog includes more than 45 artists and 140 releases, including albums by bands like La Ruda, Moussu T e lei Jovents, and prominent figures of the independent music scene.

Vinyl production and distribution

One of the fundamental characteristics of Irfan is its complete control over the production and distribution process. The label makes it a point of honor to manage every aspect of music production. By ensuring that each vinyl is manufactured to high quality standards, Irfan values a craftsmanship approach, in line with current ecological issues, which resonates with authentic vinyl enthusiasts. This independence guarantees a direct relationship between the artist and their fans, and allows Irfan to remain true to its values.

The vinyls are distributed through a network of record stores that extends far beyond French borders, including countries like Belgium, Canada, and even Japan. This strategic choice allows the label not only to make itself known nationally, but also internationally, providing valuable visibility for its artists.

In parallel with music, Irfan has expanded its activities with the creation of Barback Editions, an initiative that aims to produce literary works, including children's book-records. This move enriches the label's artistic offering and demonstrates its ability to innovate outside the beaten path.

A philosophy of commitment

Irfan also positions itself as a committed actor beyond music. The label supports social and cultural causes, highlighting projects that reflect values of integrity and solidarity. Collaborations with artists who denounce social injustices open a necessary dialogue and help raise public awareness on contemporary issues.

This is the case with "Mon p'tit loup".

"Mon p'tit loup" is an ambitious and deeply committed project that aims to raise awareness and combat child sexual abuse. Initiated by Nicolas Puluhen, a hyperactive activist and show programmer, this book-record brought together an impressive network of musical artists. Among them, emblematic figures of rock and French chanson such as Catherine Ringer, Albin de la Simone, Les Ogres de Barback, and La Rue Kétanou, rub shoulders with emerging talents.
This project is not just a musical collection; it's a platform for expression where many unreleased songs burst with creativity, such as Polo's duo (Les Satellites) and Catherine Ringer, who kick things off with "Sous la mer", or "Eux, ils parlent de toi" by Fredo, Guizmo, and Mike & Riké, accompanied by the jubilant brass band Eyo'nlé.
Younger artists, such as middle school students Mam'zelle Prune & Kamalam, also join forces with the band Minibus, lending their voices and emotions to this important cause. Through poignant lyrics and vibrant performances, "Mon p'tit loup" addresses the issue of sexual violence from multiple angles, exploring the varied sensibilities of the artists and promoting a message of solidarity and awareness. By bringing together diverse generations and styles, this work aims to be a call to collective action.

Why follow Irfan Le Label?

Irfan embodies a model of resistance against the standardization sometimes observed in the music industry. By offering a platform for independent artists, it demonstrates that it is possible to combine artistic creation and individual freedoms. In doing so, it supports a rich, varied, and deeply human musical culture.
