Opening with the singer's solo voice on the lovingly yours \"Angels,\" Coexist then delivers a logical sequence of tracks of striking elegance with the deconstructed \"Chained,\" the dreamlike narrative of \"Fiction,\" the swirling ballad of \"Try,\" the syncopated hot-and-cold of \"Reunion\"... Nothing is thrown at the listener, everything is falsely measured, right up to the conclusion, the touching \"Our Song\" which recalls the emotional ties that bind the members of The XX even before their musical affinities. This is what is so moving about the young London trio: their gift for giving themselves entirely, like overly sensitive children, while preserving themselves from the public's scrutinizing gaze. This ambivalence is one of the pillars of their ineffable and still effective charm on \"Coexist.\" Finally, we couldn't have found a better title as each member of the group seems to have found their (right) place. It is worth noting the remarkable progression of Jamie XX, increasingly at ease manipulating beats borrowed from dubstep as well as house or trip-hop. The intricate rhythms, the angelic voices of Romy Madley-Croft and Oliver Sim, the clear melodies, and the resonant production, all confirm the love one can have for The XX.
