This is the opening of the album Déliryom, the beginning of this watia watia - meaning joyful chaos or delightful mix-up, opened by six zoreys, who are, in Réunion Creole, metropolitan folks from faraway France. But these zoreys proudly claim their creoleness as a family of the heart, a chosen homeland, and turn it into a celebration. Rosemary Standley and Marjolaine Karlin, epic ladies as much as they are singers, met at a concert where Réunionese maloya resonated in Paris. It was in 2008, and their fascination for the island, its rhythms, its language born for poetry could only bring them together. They also share a figure, a capital poet and celestial wanderer, who for them would be a spiritual father - Alain Peters. Or rather his ghost, since he passed away in 1995 from a heart attack, leaving behind a daughter and about twenty songs that have shaped a fertile horizon for all musicians from Réunion... and beyond! Six years after giving birth to their first album (Zanz in Lanfèr, 2016), the two singers continue this grand journey, exploring other pieces forged through concerts, always accompanied by percussionist and rhythm doctor Salvador Douézy, and new zoreys who have joined them. There is Gérald Chevillon who plays the bass on the saxophone of the same name, Chadi Chouman as a guitarist who is unmatched in awakening the colors of his native Orient, and finally Jennifer Hutt, whose energetic violin beautifully recalls the Cajun colors of New Orleans.
