{"product_id":"walker-warren_ntraverse-vol-1-vinyl_2021_lad","title":"(n)TRAVERSE Vol 1 (vinyl)","description":"A true free spirit, Warren Walker - who works as a saxophonist, composer, and producer (The Kandinsky Effect, oddAtlas, Collektor...) - navigates an effervescent and constantly expanding musical sphere. Developing a language free of dogma, he stubbornly seeks the unexpected and embraces the present moment. Jazz thus forms the primary ferment of his playground, open to other forms of turbulence, notably (post-)rock and electro. Warren Walker now crosses a significant symbolic threshold by releasing his first solo album, '(n)Traverse'. Laying aside his saxophone, Warren Walker here gives free rein to his passion for modular synthesizers. All the music contained in '(n)Traverse' was indeed generated without multi-tracks or overdubs via his modular setup - \"I improvised a lot, especially regarding the effects used and the processing of sound samples,\" specifies Walker. There is always a great deal of improvisation with a modular synth because it's a very difficult device to control.\" Conceived between April and July 2020, the album contains 17 tracks, all initiated from sound files sent via WhatsApp by musician friends. Each track title - except for the introductory track - refers to one of these friends. Recorded solo, the album nevertheless proves to be very populated, imbued with trembling and inspiring presences. Concise and dense, evolving and (very) suggestive, the 17 tracks follow one another in a skillfully rugged flow of remarkable limpidity. Appearing as spontaneous as it is sophisticated, the whole oscillates throughout between electronica, ambient, minimalist jazz, concrete music, and soundscaping. One sometimes thinks of adventurous experimenters such as Plaid, Matmos or Mouse on Mars, but no comparison lasts long as this music vibrates with its own deeply personal dynamic. A sound journey with a high introspective content (as the album title implies), '(n)Traverse' will also unfold live. Knowing that it's impossible to play the album identically, Warren Walker picks up the saxophone again and develops a technique allowing him to reproduce certain elements and exert a minimum of control over the whole. \"That said, for me, the most exciting thing about a modular synth is precisely the fact that you never know exactly what's going to happen. What matters most is the ability to react live to the sounds generated by the system, to go in new directions.\" While waiting to follow him in his live expedition, full of great promises, one can already accompany him in his exploration on disc, thrilling from beginning to end. --- Jérôme Provençal ---","brand":"Walker Warren","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55310274462040,"sku":null,"price":23952136.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/3521381565980_c759b259-af3a-4e41-bba2-40275dff2d46.jpg?v=1760318106","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/walker-warren_ntraverse-vol-1-vinyl_2021_lad","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
