At the very moment the first notes of \"Go Out And Get 'Em, Boy!\" after John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show announced the birth of The Wedding Present, David Gedge listened attentively at home with the population of overgrown teenagers who would become his ardent fans. At the start, 'The Wedding Present' was decidedly not an album band. In fact, David would often declare that they would never release a vinyl record. Happy to have recorded and released that first single... they then began the next one. This continued for a few years, as the band organized their own concerts in pubs around Leeds to play at the Glastonbury Festival. Everything changed, of course, when 'George Best' became the first album by 'The Wedding Present' in 1988. But 'Tommy', released a year later, was made up of the early songs from singles and radio sessions that had propelled them from studio musicians to indie darlings: 'Go Out And Get 'Em, Boy!' with its deliberately super-fast guitars, 'You Should Always Keep In Touch With Your Friends', an anthem for long-time 'Wedding Present' fans, \"My Favorite Dress\", the only single from the collection that ended up on the classic 'George Best,' laden with the story of losing your first love that perfectly struck a chord and allowed David Gedge to understand everyone's heartbreak. Tommy 30, a brand new re-recording of Tommy, did not simply appear as a \"follow-up\" to George Best 30. The band felt, during a tour of concerts for Tommy's 30th anniversary, that the songs had grown and evolved. Enter a more confident singer... a fully matured guitar. A heavier sound. The urgency of a 25-year-old Gedge is replaced by a charming singer with years of experience. Everything is warmer and, perhaps, softer... but in a satisfying way. It's like your old friends came home to see you. You've all changed, you've all had your hearts broken... but you're still friends and you still enjoy each other's company after all these years. \"The boy Gedge wrote some of the best love songs of the Rock 'n' Roll era. You can argue about it, but I'm right and you're wrong!\" - John Peel","brand":"The Wedding Present","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57379736977752,"sku":null,"price":23551892.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/5024545853612.jpg?v=1779891823","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/the-wedding-present_tommy-30_2019_dif","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
