{"product_id":"teodor-currentzis_les-noces-de-figaro-edition-deluxe_2014","title":"Les noces de Figaro Deluxe Edition","description":"Mozart’s operas with the librettist Da Ponte are among the most recorded in the world — 200 versions of “The Marriage of Figaro” alone — but Sony Classical is making an event of this unusual project with the Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis: the label has signed the conductor and his orchestra to record the three operas in the cycle under ideal conditions, where neither rehearsal time nor recording time is counted. The first title, “The Marriage of Figaro,” benefited from recording sessions lasting up to 14 hours for 11 days and nights in a row. The setting is also unusual: since 2011 the conductor has led the Perm Opera, formerly “Molotov,” in the Urals, the easternmost city in Europe, 1,400 km east of Moscow. He negotiated ideal conditions to restore the former industrial city’s opera house to its former glory: unlimited rehearsal time and the resources needed to expand his own ensemble, MusicAeterna. Known for his expressive conducting style and perfectionism, Teodor Currentzis works with his musicians like in a community, even a monastery. For him, music is “a mission.” He chose young international singers ready to commit themselves to his radical approach: returning to the intimacy of Mozart’s work, where one must be able to whisper or explode in turn, and erasing the 20th-century operatic tradition, based on simplification and vocal power. “I wanted to make a recording where the singing would be as far as possible from opera singing. A very intimate singing, which comes from the heart and goes straight to the heart,” he explains. The result is striking: young, fresh voices, with reduced vibrato, and a highly expressive naturalness. The orchestra plays fast, much faster than on usual recordings, finding a tempo closer to Mozart’s wishes at the time. It also plays in a very contrasted, almost violent way. “In reality, classical music is extreme. Its spirit is much wilder, much fiercer than what we were taught about it in the 20th century,” the maestro insists. This international release of The Marriage of Figaro on February 17, 2014, will be followed by “Cosi fan Tutte” in autumn 2014 and “Don Giovanni” in autumn 2015.","brand":"Teodor Currentzis","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58738801639768,"sku":null,"price":23086042.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0888837092623.jpg?v=1791764081","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/teodor-currentzis_les-noces-de-figaro-edition-deluxe_2014","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
