Enriching one's sound palette with an oriental instrument like the oud requires taking a detour, finding a language free from the aesthetic codes of jazz, liberated from the conventions of the genre. The oud is a millennia-old instrument that resonates the soul with another world, and by its very nature, it shapes the writing and imposes the need to find a meeting point, in the absence of a common language. This is the challenge that this project represents and what makes it rich; it forces us to listen to each other and express ourselves in a new way, to attune ourselves to another universe. The encounter with Mohamed Abozekry was crucial, as he is a true improviser who, although he does not have the same references, has a deep knowledge of music and great technical mastery of the instrument.
