Not knowing what to do, journalists tried to describe progressive thrash with terms like \"jazz metal,\" while metal fans reacted either with enthusiasm or with a big question mark over their heads. Despite everything, everyone understood that it was one of the best musical groups in Germany. Two years later, they did even better with the successor \"Steps\"... The thrash portion was reduced to almost nothing, but they unsparingly showed that they had gained even more skills in the past months. The band, still young at the time, played at an unprecedented level in European heavy metal. Only in America did Watchtower or Dream Theater deliver such complicated material. In the good tradition of Rush, \"Steps\" features a long song on side A (25 minutes!), while side B contains five tracks and an outro. The track \"Corridors\" is another example of the elusive abilities of the young musicians. \"Steps\" is overall more independent than \"Life Cycle,\" which still strongly recalled Watchtower. Thanks to the vocals of Franz Herde, who was no longer present on its successor, the first chapter of Sieges Even closes here. \"Steps\" was recorded in 1990 at Lakeside Studios by Charlie Bauerfeind, who is now known as a producer. Despite the demanding material, the album was a success. Today, \"Steps\" appears on many lists when it comes to key prog metal or prog rock albums. It had been unavailable since the original pressings on Steamhammer\u003cbr\u003eSPV!
