sho-nuff_body-pressure_2025_mdl
Body Pressure
Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the reissue of Sho-Nuff's extremely rare funk
soul album, *Body Pressure*, originally released in 1983. Recorded for the Japanese label King Records, the album was only released in Japan and disappeared without a trace, making it one of the most coveted modern soul
boogie albums on the international scene. The group, hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, formed in the mid-70s. They first made waves on the local music scene before signing with Stax and releasing their debut album, *From The Gut To The Butt*, in 1978. They then released two more excellent gems, *Tonite* (1980) followed by *Stand Up For Love* (1982) on Malaco Records. Intended for the Japanese market, *Body Pressure* was recorded with the help of Japanese jazz-funk guitarist Takao Naoi (who played with Akira Ishikawa and Yuji Ohno among others) and released in 1983. Blending funk, boogie, and interspersed with languid ballads, *Body Pressure* is a superb album that lives up to its reputation, hence the high price of up to €1000 for an original copy. A jewel added as a bonus on this reissue, "Don't Keep Me Waiting" was not on the original album. The track was only released as the B-side of the single "Yakki! Yakki!" – a highly sought-after 45rpm – making this reissue a significant event for all boogie fans, 40 years after its Japanese release. The audio has been remastered in Tokyo by King Records from the original tapes, and the album is reissued with the original Japanese artwork and OBI strip, along with new liner notes by Charles Waring.
