{"product_id":"reality_disco-party_2026_lba","title":"Disco Party","description":"Mr Bongo presents the reissue of one of the rarities from the TSG Records label, famous and now extremely rare, stemming from a tax scam. This label with a troubled past was run by Lloyd Price and is said to have had links with boxing promoter Don King. The album in question, Disco Party by Reality, is a striking journey through the funk of the 70s, crafted for the dance floors, and the beginnings of disco. In the mid-70s in Manhattan, Dr. Otto Gomez and a group of New York musicians, including Tony Dixon, Norman Drayton, Tony Dupree, Al Jones, and Fred Nanton, were invited to record for composer and producer Billy Nichols. They recorded a track by Nichols and a few compositions from the group, paid as session musicians, without paying much attention. The tapes caught the attention of Lloyd Price, who struck a deal with Nichols without Gomez and the other group members knowing. Price then pressed the album and released it in 1976 on a newly created subsidiary label, TSG Records, which would later be recognized as one of the fraudulent labels of the 70s American tax system. These labels were created to exploit a loophole in the American tax system, inflating production costs and losses that investors or the parent label could deduct from their taxes. Records released on these labels were never intended for commercial success. They were generally produced in extremely limited runs and received no promotion or distribution. As a result, many of these records quickly fell into obscurity, becoming legendary among DJs and collectors. Unfortunately, this meant that artists like Dr. Otto Gomez and his friends never had the chance to showcase their album and talent at the time. In reality, it was only when Jazzman contacted them for the 2022 reissue that Dr. Otto Gomez learned of the album's existence and discovered its history. Disco Party is a true time capsule where the instrumental funk of the 70s blends with the early disco sounds. These tracks, minimalist and groovy, are made for the dancefloor. The bass and drums, ever-present, set the rhythm for the album. Funky and catchy guitar riffs, along with a brilliant brass section, intertwine subtly with the productions. Among the standout tracks are the catchy and festive \"Let's Party People,\" the disco assurance of \"Reality,\" and \"Disco Party (Let's Have A),\" with its wah-wah groove and percussion break, which would have perfectly fit on the soundtrack of a blaxploitation film of the time. It is not only its rarity that makes this record so sought after, but especially the fact that it is a superb example of funk and disco from the mid-70s, resolutely aimed at the dancefloor.","brand":"Reality","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57574236258648,"sku":null,"price":23547378.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/reality_disco-party_2026_lba","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
