This album is a reissue of recordings of traditional music and songs made by the American writer and composer Paul Bowles between July and December 1959, at the request of the American Library of Congress. An American writer and musicologist (1910-1999) who spent half a century of his life in Tangier (Morocco) and helped bring Moroccan writers to light. In 1947, Bowles settled permanently in Tangier, where Jane Auer joined him in 1949. The couple quickly became essential figures in the circle of Europeans and Americans based in Tangier. From the late 1940s onward, they received visits from prominent literary figures, including Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams and Gore Vidal. They were followed, during the 1950s, by writers of the beat generation, Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. From the time he settled in Morocco, Bowles devoted himself to writing novels, short stories and travel accounts, while also composing the music for nine plays performed at the American School of Tangier. In 1959, during a journey across Morocco, Bowles devoted five weeks to recordings of the Andalusian language as well as traditional tribal music of the Berbers, well before the “World Music” craze. Two recordings were released commercially and all are archived at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.","brand":"Paul Bowles","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58806321381720,"sku":null,"price":23109197.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/paul-bowles_music-of-morocco-recorded-by-paul-bowles-1959-inclus-livre_2016","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
