The last two albums were so focused on guitars and keyboards that John Dwyer wanted a set of unusual and fun parameters to work with. Tom [Dolas] and John each chose a sound using synthesizers and created a range of three octaves from that sample, then loaded them into Roland SPD-SX samplers and learned the transcribed songs using drumsticks. The idea was to change the way they wrote and have four people on stage essentially playing percussion. So there are no guitars or keyboards. The band added a saxophone section to complement the brass sound with a bit of bell-like tones. It's a bit like Dexys Midnight Runners meets Von LMO meets The Flesh Eaters meets the Screamers. Pop and catchy, intense at times.
