With no tourists, confined with only fishing boats in the harbor and locals in the background, it was the perfect peaceful place to work. In an Old Carpet Factory transformed into a studio, 35 songs were written and 20 recorded, of which 11 made it to the final tracklist. The songs reflect the feeling of being suspended in time, locked in a safe place but aware of the fragility of the moment. \"Hydranisme\" acknowledges the hedonistic spirit of escape inherent to the island while paying tribute to the wise atmosphere it provides for getting lost in daydreams and creating without restraint. The recordings are based on a skeleton of live takes with vocals and acoustic guitars recorded in the kitchen, drums (Cyprien Jacquet aka Wend¥ Kîll) and bass (Jerome Goldet) in the old furnace room, while vocals were recorded in the ballroom and hands clapped in the shower. The album took the shape of the Old Carpet Factory, perched on a steep slope overlooking the harbor of Hydra and the distant hills of the Peloponnese. Layering upright grand pianos and baby grand pianos, aided by touring band member Reni Lane, they embraced the high resonance inherent to the hammered harp; harmonies followed as a sauce simmered on the stove. In style and tradition, the substance of the sound embraces the style of larger-than-life ballads, intimate folk songs, and resonance play, ranging from glam rock to toy sounds that can be heard in the neon district of Shibuya, Tokyo.
