It was then that Niquet vowed to create his own ensemble and record the work - and to reveal other beauties of the music of his country (and beyond). Thus was born Le Concert Spirituel, which now celebrates its quarter-century, during which its voices and instrumentalists have continued to enchant the public in a joyful celebration of the music of the 17th and 18th centuries (then the dawn of the 19th with Sémiramis by Charles-Simon Catel). To celebrate this anniversary, Glossa offers at a sweet price a double celebration disc, where Niquet showcases the vast registers of Le Concert Spirituel (after all, he began his musical life playing the organ): sacred baroque music, Marc-Antoine Charpentier of course; a selection of pages from the \"reoxygenated\" lyrical tragedy (according to Niquet's expression) by Le Concert Spirituel (Grétry, Campra, Destouches), but also a glimpse of his theatrical tendency to flit (Niquet is a declared fan of the music hall!) from Handel to Purcell and Striggio.
