The album was funded by the Arts Council England and created in close collaboration with trumpeter and composer Aaron Wood, the duo having recorded in his rural studio in Huddersfield. By improvising on upright piano, Rhodes and trumpet over meticulously programmed beats, the duo captured the spontaneity that brings jazz to life, but with the avant-garde touch of live Ableton production. Matt Wilde discovered jazz through an unconventional path, and \"Find a Way\" is an introspective map of his musical evolution. A self-taught beatmaker, Matt grew up composing tracks for his friends in the grime scene before becoming passionate about jazz through the sample-rich works of Madlib, J Dilla and Pete Rock. Traces of this influence can be found on \"Windup\", driven by deeper bass and a glitched intensity uncommon in jazz. There are also nods to the weekly DJ residencies Matt held in his late teens, where he developed his love for club music in iconic Manchester venues like Sankeys. Guided by values of accessibility and creativity, Matt has become an essential voice on the avant-garde British jazz and beats scene.
