Manu Dibango, who passed away five years ago at the age of 86, is one of the pillars of African music alongside Fela, Miriam Makeba and Youssou N'Dour. Over a six-decade career, Dibango revolutionized the continent's music, achieving global success with \"Soul Makossa\" in 1972. This live album, recorded in 1982, comes at a crucial time when France, after the election of François Mitterrand, discovered a newfound multicultural sensibility. With the rise of FM radio stations like Radio Nova, the French music scene suddenly opened up to new horizons. The \"Sono Mondiale\" (World Sound) was born. Recorded on December 22, 1982, at the Théâtre La Criée in Marseille, Dibango 82 delivers a superb concert blending African rhythms, jazz, funk, and some Latin influences, led by Dibango accompanied by a dream cast: Congolese guitarist Jerry \"Bokilo\" Malekani, drummer Brice Wassy, percussionist Valery Lobe, as well as Jean-Pierre Coco on percussion, Hary Gofin on bass, Malagasy pianist Del Rabenja, and vocalists Florence \"Titty\" Dimbeng and Sissy Dipoko.
