He was then residing in Naples in the service of Ferdinand Alvare de Toledo, Duke of Alba and Viceroy of Naples. This region was under the rich influence of Spain. Published simultaneously in Spanish and Italian, this treatise is primarily a valuable testimony to Spanish instrumental art. The second book of the Trattado de Glosas is performed here in its entirety, with Bruno Cocset and Guido Balestracci alternating the Recercadas. In counterpoint to this corpus blending inventiveness and virtuosity, short pieces by emblematic composers of Spain's Golden Age, contemporaries of Ortiz, are added: Antonio de Cabezón, Luis de Milán, and Tomás Luis de Victoria.
