{"product_id":"leon-berben_complete-keyboard-works-6-cd_2015","title":"Complete keyboard works - 6 CD","description":"After releasing in 2012 the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach on 19 SACDs (awarded the “Echo Klassik” in 2012 for “best audiophile multichannel production of the year” and the “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik”), AEOLUS now presents a new recording of the complete keyboard works of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck by the Dutch organist and harpsichordist Léon Berben. Three prestigious and characteristic instruments were chosen for this project: the historic Hans Scherer organ of St. Stephanus Church in Tangermuende, Germany (1624), the Renaissance organ (1521) of the Grote Kerk in Oosthuizen (Netherlands), and the Renaissance “Niehoff” organ (1600), rebuilt in 1998 by Guido Schumacher for Saint-Jacques Church in Liège, Belgium. In addition, for a few toccatas and the variation cycles, a harpsichord by Keith Hill (1999) was used, a copy of the famous 1624 Ruckers harpsichord now housed in the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar. In terms of character and tonal quality, the three organs are exceptionally impressive. You will be amazed not only by the quality and diversity of the small organ in Oosthuizen. The Hans Scherer organ in Tangermuende still contains 50% of its original 1624 pipework, which places it among the ideal instruments for interpreting Sweelinck’s music. The reconstruction of the Niehoff organ in Liège ranks among the most successful style copies of the last 20 years of organ building. Léon Berben’s reputation as an organist and harpsichordist is well established. On our label he has already recorded several albums that have been praised by the critics: the complete works of Vincent Lübeck, Johann Ulrich Steigleder, Franz Xaver Anton Murschhauser, Johann Caspar Kerll and, in particular, a SACD of works by Joan Cabanilles, which was awarded the “Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik”, a “Diapason d’Or” and the “Choc du Monde de la Musique”. Our new Sweelinck edition is delivered in a “lift off lid” box: each CD is housed in a full-color sleeve. The full-color booklet has 52 pages. In addition to a musicological text on Sweelinck, you will find an introductory text and personal reflections by the performer. The texts about the organs were written by the Dutch expert Koos van de Linde. Several color photos and the organ specifications are of course included.","brand":"Léon Berben","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58794671669592,"sku":null,"price":23007968.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/4026798110215.jpg?v=1792017195","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/leon-berben_complete-keyboard-works-6-cd_2015","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
