This collection is completed by a booklet by the renowned rock and metal journalist Xavier Russell, based on a new interview with KIX’s Brian “Damage” Forsythe. Formed in Maryland in 1976, like many of their hard rock contemporaries, KIX began as a bar band, playing covers of hard rock songs of the time. When they signed to Atlantic Records for their self-titled debut album, “KIX” (CD1), in 1981, the band consisted of Steve Whiteman on vocals, Ronnie Younkins and Brian Forsythe on guitar, Donnie Purnell on bass and Jimmy Chalfant on drums. Produced by Tom Allom (Judas Priest, Black Sabbath), KIX’s first album included many live favorites, including the singles “The Itch”, “Heartache” and “Atomic Bombs”. KIX moved away from its heavier early sound to adopt a more commercial approach, tailor-made for MTV with “Cool Kids” (CD2) in 1983. Produced by Pete Solley (Whitesnake, Ted Nugent), Brad Divens replaced Ronnie Younkins on guitar. Perfectly placed to take advantage of the burgeoning hair metal scene, Ronnie Younkins was back for “Midnite Dynamite” (CD3) in 1985. This album saw KIX collaborate with outside songwriters, including Bob Halligan Jr., famous for his work with Judas Priest, and Kip Winger of Winger. KIX reached a commercial peak with the platinum album “Blow My Fuse” (CD4), released in 1988. Featuring the power ballad “Don’t Close Your Eyes”, the album also included the singles “Blow My Fuse” and the essential “Get It While It’s Hot”. The band left Atlantic for East West with “Hot Wire” (CD5), released in 1991, notable for its cover art by Hugh Syme (Rush). 1993 saw the release of the inevitable and much-anticipated “Live” (CD6), featuring KIX classics: “Hot Wire”, “Same Jane” and “Rock \u0026amp; Roll Overdose”. “Demos” (CD7) includes “Red Lite, Green Lite, TNT”, “Get It While It’s Hot” and “No Ring Around Rosie”. KIX brought their career to a close after 1995, but fortunately reunited in 2003. In 2014, they released “Rock Your Face Off”, which reached No. 49 on the Billboard chart and stayed there for three weeks. It was KIX’s highest-charting album since “Blow Your Fuse” (1988). KIX’s final concert took place on September 17, 2023 at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, Maryland.
