{"product_id":"karl-bohm_lohengrin_2013","title":"Lohengrin","description":"In May 1965, barely a year after Herbert von Karajan’s sensational resignation, the Vienna State Opera played the prestige card with this Lohengrin conducted by Karl Böhm and staged by Wieland Wagner, who adapted his “blue” production created in Bayreuth in 1958. Two performances, two casts, this one (the first) being recorded by Austrian Radio in optimal technical conditions. A classic live recording, previously available on the Melodram label, and regarded as one of the great interpretations of the work despite a few cuts likely to shock purists. A sumptuous cast, dominated by Jess Thomas and Christa Ludwig - even more impressive than in the studio under Rudolf Kempe’s baton -, barely unbalanced by Claire Watson, an honest singer somewhat out of place in this gallery of giants. But it is Böhm - for his only Lohengrin on record - who makes this document irreplaceable. As usual (The Ring, Tristan and Isolde, The Flying Dutchman), he conducts “at human scale,” without showy effects or metaphysical ecstasies. But what drive, what naturalness, what a sense of drama! It is hard to claim, after hearing it, that Lohengrin is the most static of Wagner’s operas.","brand":"Karl Böhm","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58738724667736,"sku":null,"price":22919958.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/4011790862323.jpg?v=1791760449","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/karl-bohm_lohengrin_2013","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
