{"product_id":"john-coltrane_coltrane-john-lush-life_2009_pia","title":"Coltrane John \/ Lush Life","description":"Prestige, Bob Weinstock's label, was known for its \"first-take\" policy, avoiding the use of studio time to rehearse tracks or do additional takes, and for mixing takes from different dates for its records. This second album by John Coltrane for Prestige is no exception to this policy and is the result of three different sessions: the first (Coltrane's very first as a leader) took place on May 31, 1957, the second on August 16, and the third on January 10, 1958. To achieve the album's sequence, the oldest session closes it, the most recent is placed in the middle, and the August 16 session is at the beginning. For his first three tracks, Coltrane plays in a trio, not as an homage to Sonny Rollins or for aesthetic reasons, but because Red Garland didn't show up, so there's no piano but an introduction to \"Like Someone in Love\" with a solo saxophone, foreshadowing the lyricism that dominates the album. This version of \"Lush Life\" has become a classic. \"Who hasn't played it without the verse,\" Joe Goldberg has since noted in his liner notes. The only original is \"Trane's Slo Blues,\" a Coltrane-esque version of \"Bag's Groove\" that nicely complements the calypso of \"I Love You\" and the fast tempo of \"I Hear a Rhapsody.\" Coltrane had freed himself from drugs and started playing with Monk (\"Monk's Mood\" dates from April 16, 1957). It is his joy of life that can be heard here.","brand":"John Coltrane","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55304127250776,"sku":null,"price":23730885.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/8436006494567.jpg?v=1772566088","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/john-coltrane_coltrane-john-lush-life_2009_pia","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
