{"product_id":"jeremie-couleau_heavenly-songes_2020_disco-virgin-music-group","title":"Heavenly songes","description":"The career of Nicholas Ludford (ca. 1490-1557), otherwise spelled Nycolace Ludfoorthe, is no longer a mystery today. This son of a musician from the Fraternity of St Nicholas was destined from a young age for a beautiful career in music. Unlike other musicians of his time who went to enhance their curriculum vitae in distant lands, our composer made his way within the very limited perimeter of Westminster, the political and ecclesiastical center of London and England during the Renaissance. While Nicholas Ludford is experiencing a resurgence of interest today, particularly thanks to the work and recordings of David Skinner, some of his works remain to be discovered. Less exuberant than the masses Lapidaverunt Stephanum or Benedicta, the Lady Masses dedicated to the Virgin, and intended to be sung in the small chapels of large ecclesiastical institutions, attract attention for their singularities. Among the eleven complete masses that have survived from Nicholas Ludford, the seven masses contained in the manuscript British Museum MSS Roy. App. 45-48 deserve specific attention. They constitute, for example, the only complete cycle of votive masses to the Virgin for all days of the week preserved in England; they include Alleluya and Sequences for which English music has few polyphonic examples; they are based on cantus firmi of remarkable interest belonging to a repertoire known as \"squares\"; and they are constructed according to the principle of alternatim, with alternations of solo sections and three-voice sections.","brand":"Jérémie Couleau","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57584133701976,"sku":null,"price":23477644.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/jeremie-couleau_heavenly-songes_2020_disco-virgin-music-group","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
