The opportunity was given to me by my friend Stephane Bechy who suggested I record for his label (BY). In a place conducive to the interpretation of Bach's music, the wonderful Église Saint-Savinien-le-Jeune in Sens (Yonne), I was able to express, to capture this moment on the path of my experience with the Suites. Even if it is just a moment on this endless road, a photograph in a way, it is also a pivotal moment, a milestone. I felt it was time to symbolically give birth to this work that I have been developing for decades, to share it beyond concerts, to make it an object of listening for music lovers, lovers of music, of Bach, of his suites for cello. No one is unaware of the references that have marked their interpretation over the years, from Casals to Bylsma to name just a few of the famous interpreters of these suites. But there definitely comes a time when maturity, the intimate existence with these works that I have worked on and played so much, places us before this obviousness — this urgency I could say — of recording, when the opportunity arises under the best conditions. This is what happened with the BY label, its director Stephane Bechy, the acoustic richness of a place...
