The Turning Center Of A Still World is his first purely solo record and his most lucid, poignant and integral work to date. After two acclaimed albums composed with particular collaborators and interveners, Jason conceived his third album as an interaction strictly delimited by his own body, his acoustic instrument and his custom-designed electronic system. The disc is a singular sound exploration of calibration, interaction, expression, and biofeedback between man and machine. Using saxophones, foot-controlled bass pedals and his own pulse – patched via a heart monitor routed to varied signals that trigger modular synthesizers and samplers – Jason Sharp paints with organic waves made of shimmering synthesis, pink noise and digital data. Melodic strokes and harmonic forms undulate and rise on ever-changing seas, through an inclement cycle from dawn to dusk. The album's six main movements navigate a world where placid surfaces are always uneasy and disturbed by a deeper inexorable whirlwind: the gravitational pull and tidal perpetuities of our water-made bodies, buffeted by earthly atmospheric pressures, wrung out by emotion, coursing with blood, sustained by breath, ineluctably full of yearning and returning to the soil again and again. Jason’s heartbeats literally course through these compositions – while only occasionally appearing as a clearly audible pulse or rhythm, they physically fuel an array of generative synthetic processes that help constitute and direct the music. The immersive, intensive and large-format electronic works on The Turning Centre of a Still World could sit comfortably as a masterful and stellar contribution to the sci-fi soundtrack genre, but these are ultimately deeper, more granular and more earthy matters. Jason chose an auspicious time to commit to a rigorously solo practice: pandemic lockdown occurred just as initial studio sessions with sound engineer Radwan Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart, Matana Roberts, Suuns) were meant to begin. While much of the core architecture and several themes had already been constructed, Sharp found his isolation music marinating in a soup of social distancing anxiety beyond all imagining, producing much deeper flavours and hues. As the album attests: he more than leaned into it. With sessions re-scheduled according to prevailing protocols in autumn 2020, Radwan Moumneh captured Jason Sharp at a peak of technical, technological and intangible expressive power.","brand":"Jason Sharp","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55312208789848,"sku":null,"price":23872511.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0666561015411.jpg?v=1760408892","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/jason-sharp_the-turning-centre-of-a-still-world-vinyle-180gr_2021_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
