He mentions the piece in a letter to his publisher dated less than seven weeks before his death. This is the only clue as to the period of composition. Consequently, we can assume that it is one of his last works.\u003cbr\u003eAfter a legal battle with his piano teacher Friedrich Wieck, father of his beloved Clara Wieck, Robert Schumann finally married Clara on September 12, 1840. Whereas up to then Schumann wrote almost exclusively for solo piano, he began at that time to broaden his scope. Schumann wrote a large number of masterpieces in a short period of four or five years, ranging from his famous song cycles (Liederkreis op. 39, Frauenliebe und -leben and Dichterliebe) to his first symphony, a piano concerto, string quartets and the piano quintet which was written for his young wife.","brand":"James Levine","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58806299656536,"sku":null,"price":23098537.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/james-levine_quintette-a-cordes-ut-majeur-d-956-quintette-avec-piano-opus-44_2015","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
