This record, out of print since 1990, was previously only available in the \"The Vinyl Collection\" box set released in 2014. Released in 1981, this album followed his final album on Stiff, \"Laughter\" (with The Blockheads), and marked Ian's first album on Polydor Records. On the suggestion of Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, Ian Dury flew to the Bahamas to record \"Lord Upminster\" at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, reuniting with his long-time collaborator, Chaz Jankel. They would collaborate with the reggae duo Sly Dunbar (drums) and Robbie Shakespeare (bass), as well as keyboardist Tyrone Downie. Backing vocals were notably provided by Tina Weymouth, of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, and her sister Laura Weymouth. The album explores a wide variety of musical styles, reflecting Dury's influences and journey through pub rock, early rock 'n' roll, and British music hall, while incorporating funk and post-disco rhythms. It notably features a composition by Sly Dunbar, \"Girls (Watching)\". There is also the single \"Spasticus (Autisticus)\", deemed controversial enough to be banned from airplay. This track was Ian's protest against the International Year of Disabled Persons, which he considered condescending and insensitive.
