Peter Sagar, also known as Homeshake, wrote the majority of his fifth studio album, 'Under the Weather,' in 2019, while enduring a long and unrelenting period of sadness. He was living in Montreal, and while everyone else was out, he was inside, listening to ambient music, binge-watching Star Trek, and writing songs. The dark abyss of a deep depression. 'Under the Weather' is hazy and moody, the pace slow as molasses, and from beginning to end, a fog settles over every synth and guitar line. His journal, which helps him release pressure, has always been music. Capturing the troubled sound of depressive funk was no easy feat, especially in the state of mind he had been in for over a year. For this reason, he decided to enlist his friend, Lucas Nathan of Jerry Paper, to help him produce the record. Lucas's input helped Peter recapture some of the dry, pristine digital sound that defined his fourth studio album, Helium, and add personal analog touches that had drawn people to the Homeshake project in the first place. \"Vaccum\" is an introspective, downtempo track and reflects the emotions present on the album. \"Feel Better\" is a reflection on trying to find courage again when the weather outside is dreary. On \"Inaminit,\" Peter cancels his plans when he's not feeling well, while the album's closing track, \"Tenterhooks,\" sees Peter finding deliverance in the depths of despair.
