{"product_id":"herbie-hancock_empyrean-isles-nouvelle-edition_2000","title":"Empyrean isles - Nouvelle édition","description":"Empyrean Isles is Herbie Hancock’s fourth album for the Blue Note label. It includes two of his most popular tracks: One finger Snap and, above all, Cantaloupe Island. Entirely composed by the pianist, the first bold move of this recording lies in the very makeup of the group: Herbie Hancock borrowed Miles Davis’s rhythm section (Ron Carter and Tony Williams), with whom he had been playing piano for a year, and added trumpeter Freddie Hubbard. By abandoning the classic quintet format and doing without the saxophone, the composer then takes the risk of losing sonic richness and of a general weakening in the rendering of his compositions. The quartet offsets this drawback with an extra burst of energy: Herbie strings together complex motifs supported by the frenetic fervor of the double bassist and drummer, while Freddie Hubbard soars above this tumultuous rhythmic carpet from the heights of his dazzling range and playing power. But the originality of the ensemble’s structure is far from being the main source of Empyrean Isles’ singularity. Each of its four compositions is a masterpiece of inventiveness and intensity, where the sacrosanct theme is swept aside to make room for free improvisations of melodies, thematic material of urgency worked over by this quartet of architects of the moment. In this respect, One finger Snap was one of the first titles to join the real book (the collection of standards most frequently used by jazzmen) in the form of an improvised melody harmonization. In this sense, the album escapes any attempt at categorization and is unafraid of the wide gap between avant-garde experimentation and highly accessible tracks such as its global soul jazz hit with unforgettable blues and funk sounds, Cantaloupe Island.","brand":"Herbie Hancock","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58783083987288,"sku":null,"price":22772060.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0724349879621.jpg?v=1791931879","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/herbie-hancock_empyrean-isles-nouvelle-edition_2000","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
