THE BAND What better way to celebrate the thirtieth volume of LateNightTales than to hand over the decks to the English band Friendly Fires? Formed in 2006 in the close suburbs of London, the trio became known in 2008 with the release of their eponymous debut album, entirely self-produced and selling 200,000 copies. Three years later, the English band reiterated with a second album titled Pala (in reference to Aldous Huxley's work). An uninhibited blend of pop, dance, and disco, this album solidified their reputation, definitively establishing Ed Macfarlane's band as one to watch on the current English scene. The band's influences are varied, and this is clearly evident in their selection. The beginning of the album is predominantly disco\/funk, starting with a track by Junior Boys, followed by \"Change your Style\" by Renee and \"Like an eagle\" by Dennis Parker, taking us back happily to the 70s. We also find the French band Space, with their epic track \"Carry on, Turn me on,\" before taking a musical turn towards Iron Galaxy's house music. The next part brings us back to our era with two tracks by producers Bibio and SBTRKT, then an unreleased cover of \"Why don't you answer\" by Eberhard Schoener and Sting. Later, we find Friendly Fires' attraction to acoustic minimalism with a track by Cocteau Twins and Slowdive, then the unclassifiable arrangement of Olivia Newton-John by neo-classical composer Nils Frahm.
