{"product_id":"europa-galante_imeneo_2016_disco-virgin-music-group","title":"Imeneo","description":"Fabio Biondi signs his fourth project for Glossa by immersing himself in the world of opera: at the head of Europa Galante, he offers us an enthusiastic interpretation of a late work by Handel, \"Imeneo\", in the version known as Dublin 1742, retitled \"Hymen\". The London audience increasingly turned away from Italian opera, where Handel had shone for so many decades, somewhat pushing the composer to recycle himself into oratorio and to lean towards the galant style. Despite this situation, Handel relied for the creation of the work in 1740 on divos and divas of the class of La Francesina and Giovanni Battista Andreoni. The opera did not achieve the deserved success, but Handel, confident, presented \"Imeneo\" during his tour in Dublin (where \"Messiah\" was created!) with some additional arias accompanying those that were applauded at Lincoln's Inn Fields. The libretto, initially received with coolness, was trimmed, and its second version directly presents the Athenian Tirinto (Ann Hallenberg in Biondi's production for the Handel Festival in Halle) desperate over the loss of his beloved Rosmene (Monica Piccinini), captured by pirates. Freed by Imeneo (Magnus Steveland), Rosmene must make a heartbreaking choice: to marry her love or, out of duty, her savior? Leading the violin, Fabio Biondi invests all his experience of Italian music, particularly that of the 18th century, in a passionate defense of this unjustly forgotten opera.","brand":"Europa Galante","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57732060348760,"sku":null,"price":23553342.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/europa-galante_imeneo_2016_disco-virgin-music-group","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
