Shortly after, they recorded a session for John Peel's show on BBC Radio 1, which allowed them to sign with Dedicated Records, a label for influential artists such as Spiritualized, Chapterhouse, Global Communication, Hum, and Beth Orton. Their meteoric rise to fame came after a world tour with The Cure in 1992. Wings of Joy is the first of five studio albums that Cranes recorded for Dedicated.
