count-basie_live-in-paris-1957-1962_2015
Live in Paris 1957 - 1962
This box set brings together three concerts recorded in Paris between 1957 and 1962 by Count Basie, king of swing in big band, a great legend and eternal modernizer of jazz throughout his long career. Count Basie remains in collective memory as the one who, on the same level as Duke Ellington, wrote some of the finest letters of nobility for orchestral jazz. Then at the height of his glory (“April in Paris”, “Atomic Basie”, his masterpieces brought him to icon status) we are pleased to find here the big band pieces composed by Thad Jones, Neal Hefti or Quincy Jones, which have become jazz standards. A delight of swing and generosity, led by one of the greatest bandleaders.
Patrick FRÉMEAUX The “Live in Paris” collection, directed by Michel Brillié, makes it possible to rediscover previously unreleased recordings (concerts, private or radio sessions) by the great stars of jazz, rock & roll and song of the 20th century. These live recordings and the relationship with the audience bring an added soul and a sensitivity that counterpoints the rigor applied during studio recordings. Particular importance has been given to the sound restoration of the tapes to meet CD standards while preserving the period color.
