With choruses more viral than a coronavirus, a legacy that spans from Charles Aznavour to Stromae, frankly literary lyrics, and a masterful flow, Chiloo, barely 20 years old, embodies this new generation of singers whose expression is infused with rap culture, building a solid bridge between tradition and modernity. Achille (Chiloo is his childhood nickname, revisited and anglicized) was born and raised in Paris's 19th arrondissement, and from a young age benefited from a family exposure to the songs of Stevie Wonder, Jacques Brel, Serge Lama, and even Juliette Armanet. Slightly resistant to the constraints of the school system, he survived by discovering a passion for French rap, and remembers the day he picked up a pen to write lyrics as an epiphany. Sexion d'Assaut served as a revelation, as it did for many middle schoolers of that period. A somewhat tormented teenager, haunted by the doubts and questions of his age, he found psychological support in writing lyrics over instrumentals, which quickly transformed into a personal structure. His grades improved in high school, and he felt better expressing his emotions. The project was then merely a marker of his generation: on Instagram, a talent show format allowed him to post freestyles, borrowing beats from a free-access library. Thousands participated, but Chiloo quickly excelled in this exercise, as demonstrated by tens of thousands of followers who gleefully reposted his rhythmic outbursts. Chiloo participated in these freestyle contests, working alone during the first few months, drawing instrumentals from YouTube. This gained him visibility. While interning at Booba's radio station, Oklm, during his second year of high school, he met the man who would become his manager and producer, Sélim Bousbaine, founder of the Wouldi Production label. They soon secured a license with Tôt ou Tard, which made sense as this independent label is known for its dedication to song. One of the songs Chiloo posted on social media particularly resonated: \"L au pluriel\" (L in the Plural), a text denouncing femicide and harassment, which contrasted with the often macho nature of the rap world. A team was formed, with a sharp duo of beatmakers (Pierre Michelet, Arnaud Krivaneck) – one a guitarist, the other a drummer – who added sophistication to the standard programming. They worked together as a group. Chiloo felt an affinity with Lomepal and Eddy de Pretto, who, like him, moved from rap towards singing and spoken word, but also with the vibrant and increasingly popular new French pop scene. For Chiloo \"prefers to be a singer who can rap than a rapper who can sing.\" A first EP in May 2020 was warmly received and served as a stepping stone to more tangible success than the artificial notoriety of social networks. First TV appearances, first stage performances experienced as an enchantment as the young artist faced an audience singing along to his lyrics. This strange year, between pandemic and conflicts, saw Chiloo completely immersed in the creation of \"Genèse,\" an introspective, romantic debut album, where this time committed lyrics were set aside to tell his own story, and through it find an echo among his generation deprived of the joy inherent in youth. A sincere, personal album that goes beyond current trends (drill, trap, afro) to seek good musicality and assert a unique personality. By gradually moving away from urban influences, while tirelessly drawing his culture from them, Chiloo, through this seminal album of a burgeoning career, becomes the modest but determined standard-bearer of a new spirit come to rejuvenate French song.","brand":"Chiloo","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55306597204312,"sku":null,"price":23964084.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/3700187677695_e40374d1-bffd-4772-9cfd-98a01fade70b.jpg?v=1760288285","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/chiloo_genese_2022_bel","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
