{"product_id":"cha-wa_my-people-vinyle-couleur-splatter_2021_mdl","title":"My People - Vinyle Couleur Splatter","description":"The future of New Orleans music offers a bold vision of the future with a tribute to the past. The band Cha Wa is back with My People, a new collection of tracks that draw from New Orleans' rich and vibrant culture. The album blends contemporary sounds with music from street parades and the Mardi Gras Indian community, which honors Native American tribes through their music, dialects, and attire. A patchwork of sounds and stories, these original tracks are inspired by the grooves of 70s New Orleans funk bands like The Meters and draw influences from brass band music, jazz, R\u0026B, hip-hop, rock, soul, and African-inspired arrangements. Cha Wa formed under the impetus of bandleader Joe Gelini, a student of legendary drummer Idris Muhammad. Their album Spyboy (2018) was Grammy-nominated in the Best Regional Roots Album category. Cha Wa quickly became a local staple before playing their music worldwide. With roots dating back to the 19th century, Mardi Gras Indians are often associated with New Orleans' internationally renowned festivities and celebrations, but the tradition reportedly began as a way for the city's African-American community to express gratitude to Native Americans for providing shelter to New Orleanians fleeing slavery. Featuring songs about freedom, My People distills generations of musical influences into pure joy. With appearances by Alvin Youngblood Hart and Anjelika Jelly Joseph.","brand":"Cha Wa","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55312027976024,"sku":null,"price":23951987.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0701822967037.jpg?v=1760408432","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/cha-wa_my-people-vinyle-couleur-splatter_2021_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
