Fifteen years separate the two piano quintets by Dvořák, which share little in common apart from the same key: the first marks the beginnings of a young composer, while the second reflects the mastery of his art. As for the Bagatelles, originally written for two violins, cello, and harmonium, they are among the composer's most well-known pieces.
