Born during the same sessions at Omaha's ARC Studios as the previous album, these tracks didn't find their place within its cohesion. Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott chose to bring them together here, offering a new perspective on their universe. Alynda Segarra (Hurray For The Riff Raff) features on two tracks, there’s a ska reinterpretation with \"1st World Blues,\" and lyrics peppered with literary and pop culture references, from Salman Rushdie to Shakespeare. But the heart of the project lies elsewhere, in the cover of Lucinda Williams’ \"Sharp Cutting Wings.\" It was the first song Oberst wanted to sing after his vocal issues in 2024, a spontaneous and emotionally charged performance.
