During her childhood, she took a few music lessons, which allowed her to play the piano and violin, and she wrote poetry. She eventually set her texts to music and sang them while accompanying herself on guitar. St. John studied French at the University of Sheffield. She was discovered by disc jockey John Peel, who played a demo by the singer during his show The Night Ride, broadcast on BBC Radio 1. The DJ founded the independent label Dandelion Records, which released St. John’s first three albums. The first, titled Ask Me No Questions, was released in 19691. The record was produced by John Peel and recorded in the space of one night2. A national tour was set up by the label, although the singer had never performed on a stage outside her university at that point. Songs for the Gentle Man was released in 1971. It was recorded at Sound Techniques studios by producer Ron Geesin3. The following year, Dandelion released Thank You For, with a more rock sound. St. John’s 4th album, Jumblequeen, on which several members of Ten Years After played, was recorded for the Chrysalis label in 1974. That same year, Melody Maker readers placed Bridget St John in 5th position among their favorite female singers in a poll organized by the music magazine. But faced with the lack of commercial success of her records, she decided to bring her recording career to an end. In 1976, she settled in New York in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. St. John was invited to sing on several records by Mike Oldfield and Kevin Ayers. The singer continued to perform on stage. A new album, titled Take the Fifth, was released in 1996. Cherry Red is now reissuing in a Clamshell box set the artist’s first 3 albums, accompanied by BBC recordings made between 1968 and 1972.","brand":"Bridget St. John","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58783296487768,"sku":null,"price":23045540.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/5013929101708.jpg?v=1791935478","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/bridget-st-john_dandelion-albums-and-bbc-recordings-collection-coffret_2024","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
