{"product_id":"avishai-cohen_eternal-child_2026_bel","title":"Eternal Child","description":"The star double bassist announces his new album, marking a deliberate return to pure jazz. Surrounded by a multigenerational trio (Itay Simhovich, Eviatar Slivnik) and drummer Jeff Ballard, Cohen delivers 10 tracks blending original compositions and a tribute to his mentor, Chick Corea. Between groove and tradition, this intimate album dedicates each piece to his loved ones. A demonstration of virtuosity and maturity.\n\n“For once,” Avishai confides, “the album title is not one of my compositions. The fact that this one is signed by CHICK COREA, one of the most decisive encounters of my life, means a lot to me. Staying a child forever is also the lot of many artists. They are the lucky ones.” A title, ETERNAL CHILD, made obvious by his portrait at age 4 or 5 that illustrates the album cover. Those eyes! That look! Exactly the same, 50 years later. “What I notice in this photo is the wonder in my eyes. I was a dreamy child. I loved nature. Today I remain fascinated by it, by music, and by everything magical. And in those child’s eyes I already see the greed for life, for play, and an appetite for curiosity.”\n\nA youthful trio: ITAY SIMHOVICH, the pianist, just turned 22, and EVIATAR SLIVNIK, the drummer, is 30. What strikes you immediately is an obvious return to jazz on Avishai Cohen’s part. He owns it and claims it. “This is the most jazz album I have made so far. It wasn’t intentional, but it has a lot to do with the musicians’ personalities. ITAY SIMHOVICH, EVIATAR SLIVNIK - and JEFF BALLARD - are deeply rooted in tradition. Even though they are from the younger generation, it’s in their DNA. They are marked by the world of Miles Davis, the Jazz Messengers, or the trios of Bill Evans and Ahmad Jamal. But alongside this deliberate jazz color, you can hear the continuity of my own universe. I like it when coherence flows naturally.”\n\nThe “icing on the cake” is the presence of a second drummer, JEFF BALLARD. “I wanted to have the choice between JEFF and EVIATAR, without it being predetermined in advance. It happened over the course of the studio takes. JEFF joined us on the third day. On SLIV EL, the trio started with EVIATAR and we end in a duo, JEFF on drums and me on piano. I had imagined bringing both drummers together at least once, to shake things up. And it was also a way to remember that at the very beginning of our shared history with JEFF, after I introduced him to CHICK, we used to rehearse as a duo in his Brooklyn apartment. He had a Fender Rhodes at home, and I would introduce him to my compositions that way.”\n\nThe ten compositions on the album have one thing in common: each corresponds to a person in Avishai’s circle, or to an intimate story with him… SIMCHOVER is of course dedicated to ITAY SIMHOVICH.
