Fresh Fruit was a sub-label of Hanover’s SPV. High Roller Records is proud to present “Burning Down Paradise” for the very first time on glorious vinyl. This record marked the reunion of Andy Boulton with singer Alan Marsh. The duo had not worked together since Tokyo Blade’s debut album in 1983. The lineup on “Burning Down Paradise” was completed by John Wiggins on second guitar, Colin Riggs on bass and Marc Angel on drums. “I think the twelve songs have stood the test of time pretty well,” guitarist and founding member Andy Boulton comments today, “but it was an impossible time for hard rock and heavy metal, musical tastes had changed a lot. The album was recorded in a small studio just outside Marlborough, in Wiltshire. A guy named Nick Beer engineered the album, and you could say we all produced it, even though it was mainly Alan and me, as the main songwriters, who had the biggest impact on the album’s sound.” According to the guitarist, reactions to the album were mixed at the time: “Opinions varied, some old fans didn’t like the direction we took, others did. As for critics, I never pay attention to them anyway. My attitude is: if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it.” After the album’s release, Andy and Alan split up again and Tokyo Blade broke up. That’s why: “We’d just had enough of struggling without any support from anywhere. It wasn’t the right time for our music, and we saw no point in continuing to struggle.
