{"product_id":"andre-bratten_silvester_2020_mdl","title":"Silvester","description":"Much has been written about the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, but André Bratten’s new album for Smalltown Supersound reveals a little-known story about the band. In 1986-87, years before their first record in 1993, guitarist Oystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous) went on a musical pilgrimage to Germany to solicit a collaboration from one of his musical heroes. Oystein, who was tragically destined to be murdered by former member Varg Vikernes in 1993, bought an Interrail ticket and traveled to Germany from Norway to find experimental musician Conrad Schnitzler. Conrad was the founder of the Zodiac Free Arts Lab, the birthplace of West German krautrock in West Berlin in 1968, and a former member of Tangerine Dream and Kluster. Oystein sat outside Schnitzler's house and refused to leave until he was allowed in to talk. His persistence eventually paid off and Schnitzler finally agreed to write a piece of music for Mayhem. This piece is none other than \"Silvester Anfang\", the first track that introduces Mayhem's first album, Deathcrush. Mayhem still starts its concerts with this music today. When Mayhem founder Jorn \"Necrobutcher\" Stubberud told Bratten the story of \"Silvester Anfang\" at a party, they immediately had the idea that Bratten should remix or rework this little-known track. Completely absorbed in the sounds of Schnitzler and his strange and unlikely association with Mayhem, Bratten initially planned to make a single remix. He ended up with a series of tracks inspired by both Schnitzler's intro and the sounds of the first album Deathcrush. The result is a kind of fusion between Conrad Schnitzler, Mayhem and André Bratten. Silvester is Mayhem and Schnitzler reimagined. Or deconstructed and then reconstructed. Whatever you call it, this remix has turned into a new André Bratten album, unlike any he has recorded before, haunted by the sinister legacy of Mayhem and the concrete looped experiments of early industrial music from Kluster. Here are 5 new tracks and 50 minutes of unreleased music. An album with an undefined abstract structure mixing elements of kraut, techno, ambient, black metal, industrial, minimalist and drone. A perfect fusion of two dystopian extremes of Norwegian underground music.","brand":"André Bratten","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55311856501080,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/7072822374006.jpg?v=1760404809","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/andre-bratten_silvester_2020_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
