{"product_id":"aaron-mf-olson_songs-album-ii_2026_mdl","title":"Songs Album II","description":"Songs Album II is the first album by Aaron MF Olson, a musician from Los Angeles, on Country Thyme Records. It is his second album of songs in a little over ten years of career. The songs blend satirical, confessional, and experimental lyrics, and his music is cut from a refined fabric of soft, classic pop\/rock, both sophisticated and melodious. Listening to and playing music: that has always been the artist's ultimate goal. His high school band was a post-rock band that evolved into surf music; he has always been guided by these contrasts and continuities. He released four albums of \"Baywatch Krautrock\" with LA Takedown and has played and recorded in many other projects, including his experimental group Music Tracing Ensemble, the exotica collective Other Delights, Bedouine, Coffin Prick, Papa M, Tommy Peltier, Vetiver, and \"Los Angeles' most beloved Grateful Dead cover band,\" Richard Pictures. His solo projects include the 2020 experimental essay, Ranchera '22 {Synthesizer Interpretations of the Songs of José Alfredo Jiménez}, and the 2022 new age album, For Dorothy. He also composes for film and television; most recently, he composed the soundtrack for Matt Hewitt's independent horror film, Hoagie. If all this suggests a broad palette of inputs\/outputs, Songs Album II puts it to brilliant use, carefully arranged into a series of charming, light folk\/rock songs. Their arrangements, both soaring and precise, brilliantly magnify the very essence of the tracks. On it, you'll find Aaron on most acoustic and electric guitars, basses, keyboards, harmonica, synthesizer, and vocals; Robin MacMillian on drums; Tara Milch on flute; Michael Sachs on clarinets; Luke Csehak on bassoon and trumpet; additional guitars and vocals from Blue Broderick, Bart Davenport, and Wayne Faler; keyboards and vocals from Andrew Dorsett and vocals from Matt Popieluch. Songs Album II is thus a collection of songs and sounds of exceptional richness and precision. Aaron's voice is clear, soft, and melodiously raspy, somewhere between Jack Nitzsche, Van Dyke Parks, Robert Wyatt, and his personal inspirations: John Simon, Stephen Pastel, Jim O'Rourke, and Robin, Kermit's nephew. He took up singing late; the 2021 album Songs Album was born from a real provocation. He was bedridden with COVID, a cold, gloomy week recovering from his emotions… and right after, he finalized several already-composed songs, wrote the rest, and wrapped it all up in a few weeks: a true post-infectious frenzy! Unintentionally, Aaron approached Songs Album II the same way, after another bout of COVID. He is a singer-songwriter known for dreaming of musical passages, a few examples of which on this album testify delightfully, as if by a mystical force.","brand":"Aaron Mf Olson","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57172984693080,"sku":null,"price":23607160.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0781484310419.jpg?v=1779013806","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/aaron-mf-olson_songs-album-ii_2026_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
