CALIENTE! \"Salsa,\" which means \"sauce\" in Spanish, became widely used in the 1970s as a term for Cuban dance music, but it had existed in various forms for decades. Based on Afro-Cuban music but also influenced by musical trends in New York, Puerto Rico, and throughout Latin America, salsa has been extremely popular for over half a century but never seems to run out of inventive ideas and new talent. 'A Night In Havana' is an excellent selection from the world of salsa. It begins with the second generation of the Buena Vista Social Club (A Buena Vista) performing \"Songeros de Verdad\" with great spirit, assertive percussion and a very good lead vocalist. \"Cesar Mora\" features a talented female lead vocalist (Maria Canela) in a driving performance that includes prominent trombones. While bassist-vocalist Richard Bona has built a strong reputation in jazz circles, on \"Te Dikalo\", his voice fits very solidly into the salsa mainstream. \"Santo Antonio Do Zaïre\" by Richard Lemvo \u0026 Maikin Loca features not only their winning voices, but an impressive horn section. Yuri Buenaventura on \"Au Café Des Délices\" provides a change of pace, a thoughtful interpretation that is also quite danceable. The second half of the program begins with the late great conguero Francisco Aguabella performing soulful music on \"Guajira Candela.\" Alexander Abreau, Havana D'primera \u0026 Prulo y ala Tribu are exuberant on \"La Negra Tomasa\" which features a playful melody driven by a prominent cowbell. \"Amor Silvestre\" by Septeto Santiaguero is a straightforward piece that provides a strong forward impetus in a performance full of vitality. The memorable set concludes with a reprise of Yuri Buenaventura's warm voice on \"Je me suis fait tout petit.\" Many musical sides of salsa are presented on 'A Night In Havana' with music of impressive variety, covering a wide range of moods, grooves and melodic ideas. What each of the nine selections on this compilation have in common is that they are rhythmic, catchy and very danceable, matching the singers with irresistible rhythms from creative percussionists, high musicality and creative arrangements.","brand":"Artiste Inconnu","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55312338321752,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0641033902925.jpg?v=1760404164","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en-us\/products\/_a-night-in-havana_2023_ork","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
